From the Deepest Shadows, the Brightest Stars Shine


Some stories don’t unfold all at once. They reveal themselves slowly, quietly, and then all at once you realize how far someone has come. Working with Emma Abrescia has been exactly that kind of journey.


When I first met Emma, she was shy in the way only genuinely thoughtful kids are. She stayed close to her best friend, comfortable observing, still figuring out her place in front of the camera. At the time, there was no way to know how much those early photographs would matter — or how much confidence they would help unlock over the year ahead.


But that’s the beautiful thing about documenting growth. You don’t always see it in the moment. You see it later, when someone begins to stand taller, trust themselves more, and step into who they’re becoming.


Emma has grown so much since that first session. Not just in her movement, but in how she carries herself. There’s a quiet confidence there now — earned, not forced — and it shows every time she steps in front of the lens. Watching her progress along her dance path has been something I’m genuinely proud of.


Many of these moments were captured while she trained at True Dance Potential, a place that continues to support dancers as they find their voice, their strength, and their confidence. Emma also trains at North Shore Dance, where her continued growth and dedication to her craft are clearly reflected in her work.


What I especially love is that Emma hasn’t limited herself to just one lane. Seeing her venture into the fashion world by attending a camp in New York City felt like a full-circle moment for me. Fashion, movement, self-expression — those worlds have always overlapped in my own journey, and watching Emma explore them so fearlessly was incredibly meaningful.


From the deepest shadows, the brightest stars shine — and Emma is proof of that.
