Seeing Differently
Some moments don’t ask you to see more — they ask you to see differently.
Meeting Sophia Rodriguez was one of those moments. From the start, she brought an energy that made the session feel easy and exciting. Headshots, dance photos, video — everything we captured that day just worked. Not because it was simple, but because she was completely open to the process.
Sophia has an incredible mix of talent and personality. She’s genuinely kind, upbeat, and the kind of person who’s down to try anything once you explain the idea. That openness makes a huge difference creatively. It allows moments to happen instead of forcing them.
One of my favorite parts of the session was a video idea that, on paper, sounded awkward. I had her lying on her back on a box, flipping her hair for movement — not the most natural position. She didn’t question it. She thought it was cool and went for it. That willingness turned a strange setup into something powerful. The video came out strong, and the stills we pulled from it were some of the most unique images from the shoot.
There was something deeper happening too. The work wasn’t just reflective — it felt like release. Like something that had been waiting to come out finally had space to do so. Those are the moments I look for. The ones where expression takes over and the camera simply keeps up.
This session took place at True Dance Potential, a space that continues to encourage dancers to explore beyond comfort and lean into creativity. Sophia fit right in, bringing curiosity, trust, and a fearless approach to the work.
Sophia, thank you for taking the leap, for trusting the ideas, and for bringing your full self into the room. Your talent speaks for itself, but your openness is what makes the work unforgettable.
